Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has reiterated he is not concerning himself with talk he may scoop this year’s Ballon d’Or award.
The 33-year-old has already won FIFA’s The Best award this year after guiding Real Madrid to their third successive Champions League crown and helping Croatia to their first ever World Cup final.
“I have already said that for me it is an honour to be mentioned for this fantastic award,” Modric told reporters after Croatia fell to a 2-1 Nations League defeat against England on Sunday.
“Nothing will change for me if I win this, I will be extremely happy but either way I have enjoyed a fantastic year and that is it.”
Croatia’s incredible year ended on a slightly sour note as they suffered relegation from League A of the UEFA Nations League following a late defeat against England.
