New Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari ‘very similar to Zinedine Zidane’

Real Madrid loanee Borja Mayoral claims new Blancos boss Santiago Solari is ‘very similar’ to club legend Zinedine Zidane.

Solari became Madrid’s permanent Coach after he led them to four straight wins as caretaker, and Mayoral had only good things to say about the ex-Merengues winger, having worked under him in the Castilla set-up.

“Of course I’d still love to succeed with Madrid and national team, but it’s too early for that,” the Levante striker told AS.

“For now I have to be focused on my current club Levante. If big clubs don’t pick up good results, they ultimately change their Coach.

“Julen [Lopetegui] is a great Coach but didn’t have any luck at Madrid. If the results don’t follow, the Coach is sacked…

“I worked under Solari in the UEFA Youth League when I still played for Castilla, and he was very good.

“He’s very close in his approach. He’s very similar to Zidane. He manages the group well, which is what is always needed at Madrid.

“I’m happy for him because I know him and I’m glad they’ve put their faith in him. He has the characteristics to be successful.

“Like Zidane, he’s a club man, who knows his surroundings, and the players take note of that.

“I remember he said I’d succeed here after a Youth League match. That the current Coach of Real Madrid said that is a source of pride for me. It gives me confidence.”
