Martin Odegaard admits he was disappointed Real Madrid loaned him out to Vitesse Arnhem this summer: “I was hoping to have a place in the squad.”
The 19-year-old made 43 appearances across two seasons at Dutch club Heerenveen but returned to Los Blancos this summer, before returning to the Eredivisie.
“I was hoping to have a place in Madrid, I trained all summer and played a few minutes in pre-season,” Odegaard explained to Voetbal International, as cited by Marca.
“But in the end the club and I decided that the best option for me was to play somewhere else, it is never easy to accept straight away.
“But you have to be modest, how many 19-year-olds are in Madrid? The road is long and I have confidence in myself, I know I have to work hard, learn in each game and keep adding minutes.
“My final goal is clear: continue playing and improving because I renewed my contract (at Madrid) and I take that as a gesture of confidence.”
