UEFA president ‘will fight’ Super League idea

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin insists he will ‘fight’ against any proposals to create a European Super League of clubs.

German magazine Der Spiegel reported on Friday of plans by 11 of Europe’s leading clubs – including Real Madrid and Barcelona – to split off from the current league system to create their own division.

“It would damage football worldwide and it would be boring,” Ceferin told Kicker, as cited by ESPN FC.

“To see Juve against Bayern every week would be more boring than let's say Juve against Torino. It's no question for me that I will fight and do all I can against such a league for as long as I am here.

“If we are talking about a closed system, we can forget about solidarity and the development of football. In the long run, the clubs would be the losers.”
