Diego Simeone praised the impact of match-winner Gelson Martins following Atletico Madrid’s victory at San Andreu.
The Portuguese forward netted the winner for Atleti in their Copa del Rey victory over their third tier opponents on Tuesday evening.
“I liked Gelson’s game, he was quick and incisive,” Simeone told reporters, as cited by Marca.
“His play helped us with our transitional play and speeding up our attacking movements and his use of the ball was good, so it was an important match for him.
“The game in general was pleasing because we won the match and we kept a clean sheet, we are in control of the tie.
“Our opponents were very competitive, they were a balanced team who did not lose their structure or style against us.
“We suffered in parts but Antonio Adan had a good game and reacted well to their attempts.”
