Barcelona defender Jordi Alba is hopeful Julen Lopetegui is given more time by Real Madrid, citing the two’s strong relationship from Spain.
The full-back has been excluded from La Roja’s squad by Luis Enrique on two successive occasions but excelled under Lopetegui during his tenure with the national team.
“Lopetegui’s sacking by Spain hurt everyone,” Jordi Alba told a press conference, as cited by Marca.
“I’m sure he would have dreamed of coaching his nation at the World Cup before going to Real Madrid, but this is not always the case in football.
“We share a strong relationship and he has helped me grow a lot as a player, which I am grateful for and I hope he has success in his career.
“I did not like that he joined a rival club of course but he deserves this opportunity and he deserves to be afforded more time.”
