La Liga president Javier Tebas has apologised after a number of Spain fans booed England’s national anthem on Monday night.
Many whistles could be heard during the pre-match playing of God Save The Queen with the league’s chief stressing the need for ‘respect’ from fans.
“National anthems represent the noblest and most profound feelings of many people,” Tebas wrote on his Twitter account.
“They must always be respected. We have to apologise to the English and make that what happened yesterday does not happen again.”
Spain lost their first competitive home match in 15 years as they went down to a 3-2 defeat in Seville.
