‘Luis Enrique has a complicated relationship with Jordi Alba’

Former Barcelona full-back Aleix Vidal claims Jordi Alba’s exclusion from the Spain squad is due to his ‘complicated relationship’ with Luis Enrique.

Alba lost his place in Barca’s XI towards the end of Luis Enrique’s reign at Camp Nou and has been absent from both of the Coach’s Spain squads to date.

“Luis Enrique is a Coach with a lot of character,” Vidal, who played under Lucho between 2015 and 2017 but has since returned to Sevilla, told ElDesmarque.

“It’s true that at first I had a bad time with him, but he’s a great Coach. People who act face to face and be themselves make decent people.

“I had ups and downs with him, probably more downs than ups, but ultimately he was a stand-up guy and when I won my place in the team and he decided I was ready, he made room for me. I honestly believe he’ll do well with the national team.

“The situation with Jordi Alba? They have a complicated relationship and he’s not calling [Alba] up right now, even though for me he’s the best left-back in Spain.”
