Luka Modric ‘sad’ at Real Madrid – report

The future of Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has been thrown into fresh doubt with reports that he is ‘sad’ in the Spanish capital.

The European champions are undergoing a difficult run of form which has seen them lose three of their last four matches without scoring a goal.

According to Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Modric is ‘sad’ at the club and a much-reported move to Inter ‘is still in his thoughts’.

His compatriots Sime Vrsaljko, Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic all play at the Nerazzurri and this is said to be a key factor in Modric’s intentions of joining the club.

Over summer, Inter are reported to have offered Modric a six-year contract, which would see him play with them for four years, before spending two at their Chinese sister club Jiangsu Suning.

Various reporters say his deal at Madrid is said to have ‘a gentleman’s agreement’ with president Florentino Perez although there is no indication the club were under any obligation to honour this.

The playmaker has since been crowned the best player of last season by UEFA and FIFA but could yet revisit a possible switch to San Siro ‘if his situation doesn’t change’.
