Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric deserves to lift this year’s Ballon d’Or award, according to his fellow contestant Eden Hazard.
The Croatian has already won FIFA’s The Best award for 2018 while Chelsea forward Hazard believes his Champions League and World Cup performances are sufficient to make him favourite.
“I do not think it will be me, I believe Luka Modric deserves it,” Hazard told reporters.
“There are three or four players who have had elite years, you could say that Raphael Varane deserves it because he has won the two most important trophies, nobody else did.
“I would not be lying by saying that I have a case for winning the award too but I seriously believe that Modric will win it.
“It would be a deserving reward for his wonderful season in the Champions League and in the World Cup, where he was magnificent.”
