Rubi: Espanyol ‘tickled’ Real Madrid

Rubi was ‘proud’ of Espanyol’s performance against Real Madrid on Saturday as ‘we tickled them’, despite a 1-0 defeat.

“We leave here with that horrible feeling,” the Coach said after the game.

“We tickled Madrid. I’m proud of the team’s work and performance. The game had life until the final whistle, and that was one of the objectives we’d set ourselves.

“Madrid certainly didn’t intend to end the match camped in their box. We deserve credit for that.

“I was disappointed we conceded at a point when there was so little of the first half left. It left us very cold, but the changes got us going again and our moment came when Borja [Iglesias] hit the bar. That could’ve changed the complexion of the game.

“We had chances until the end, not very clear ones, but we still managed to tickle Real Madrid.”
