Luka Modric: I felt fatigued after the World Cup

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has revealed he felt ‘fatigued both mentally and physically’ following on from the World Cup.

The 33-year-old starred in Croatia’s run to the final this summer after another gruelling club campaign, and has been eased back into action this time around.

“I was fatigued following the World Cup, both mentally and physically,” Modric told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“Now I am beginning to feel better and as such now I can start playing more regularly, I am feeling fresher and more relaxed rather than tied up.

“It was a good victory against Roma, we put in a complete performance, scored three goals and kept a clean sheet, there was good balance to the team.

“It is fantastic to still play alongside Toni Kroos and Casemiro, we can almost play together with our eyes closed and we are comfortable together.

“The Ballon d’Or? I don’t think about it too much, if I win it then it is great – and I appreciate all the votes, but if I don’t then life goes on.”
