Ivan Rakitic has reiterated that Luka Modric deserves the individual player awards in 2018 despite Lionel Messi being ‘the best player ever’.
The Barcelona midfielder said last week that his Croatia compatriot was deserving of the individual awards, before later clarifying his admiration for club teammate Messi.
“The best player in the world is Messi and the best there has ever been, but Luka has been the best in 2018,” Rakitic told La Vanguardia.
“As such, I have clarified that Luka deserves the individual awards this year and like every other Croatian I am so happy for him with these nominations.
“I would like to see him continue to earn these nominations and win awards.”
“Sergio Busquets? He is the best pivot in the world. It's a pleasure to play by his side at club level, but you cannot compare with Modric because they're different.
“They are the best and I am privileged to play with both.”
