Modric not focused on awards

Luka Modric has stated his ambivalence towards individual awards after being shortlisted for FIFA’s The Best men player of 2018.

The 33-year-old has been shortlisted alongside former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah for the individual gong.

“In football, it is always the team which is the most important thing,” Modric said, in quotes carried by Diario AS.

“It does not matter to me if I win these individual prizes or not, because regardless of the outcome nothing will change for me.”

Modric also discussed his side’s 6-0 loss to Spain on Tuesday night: “We suffered a lot in a very tough game, but we missed three clear-cut chances and when these chances went and we fell behind, we fell apart.

“We stopped playing as a team and were just individual players, and that is never a good outcome – we must learn from this and bounce back quickly.”
