Sevilla’s Roque Mesa red card rescinded

Roque Mesa has had his red card against Real Betis on Sunday rescinded by La Liga’s Competition Committee.

The central midfielder was dismissed midway through the second half, with the game poised at 0-0, after picking up a second yellow card for blocking Betis goalkeeper Pau Lopez.

The player was vociferous in his complaints about the decision while Sevilla Coach Pablo Machin criticised referee Gil Manzano post-match, insisting VAR should have overturned the decision.

Betis won the tie 1-0 thanks to Joaquin’s header ten minutes from time but Mesa now appears to be back for selection for Sevilla’s clash with Getafe after the international break.
