Filipe Luis requested Atleti exit

Filipe Luis has confirmed he requested an exit from Atletico Madrid this summer in fresh quotes that appear to contradict previous comments.

The full-back was strongly linked with an exit from Los Rojiblancos this summer amid interest from French champions Paris Saint-Germain, but no move materialised.

Earlier this week, the Brazilian gave quotes stating that he ‘did not push’ for an exit and was ‘happy’ at Atleti, but now says he is ‘disappointed’ with the club’s actions.

“There was interest from PSG so I informed Atletico and requested that I be allowed to leave,” Luis told Globoesporte, in quotes carried by Diario AS.

“I thought it could be a similar deal to the way in which Gabi left the club this summer, as he only had one year left on his contract too, but the club did not see it this way.

“It is not true that I pushed for a move and I am disappointed the club have tried to do this because I have been here for many years.”

Luis has a €30m release clause at Atleti but his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano expires next summer.
