Jordi Alba admits Spain confusion

Jordi Alba has admitted he is ‘surprised’ by his exclusion from Luis Enrique’s first Spain squad and ‘does not know’ why he has been omitted.

The full-back scored in Barcelona’s 8-2 victory over Huesca on Sunday and has been a regular in Spain’s starting line-up over the past six years.

“Of course the decision surprises me, it is not something that I expected,” Alba is cited as saying by Marca.

“I really do not know why I have not been included but this is the decision of the Coach and I have to respect that, it is a decision which is not up to me.

“Maybe if I continue to play well then I will be back in the squad, that is my intention and my motivation, but do not forget I was surprised to go to Euro 2012 after playing with Valencia.

“At this moment, both Marcos Alonso and Jose Luis Gaya will represent the national team and they are two great players.”
