Lopetegui: Loss doesn’t change much

Julen Lopetegui declared Real Madrid’s 4-2 defeat to Atletico in the European Super Cup ‘doesn’t change our transfer policy much’.

“I don’t think it changes much of our transfer policy. It’s time to lift ourselves and start the League well,” Marca quoted the Coach as saying after the game.

He added, as per UEFA.com: “In a final, those who make the most errors often lose and Atleti are experts at taking advantage of that. When we were at our best they made it 2-2. We’ll pick ourselves up and carry on.

“A lot of the time it’s not physical but it’s more what we did with the ball. We took risky decisions and it wasn’t to be. We’ll have to learn from these mistakes to improve.

“They made good use of the chances they had. We reached extra time at 2-2 – I had the impression that during the first half of extra time we had more control. After they made it 3-2, we tried to take more risks and we lost our style of play.

“In the first half of extra time, the team did well but the third goal hurt us emotionally and that’s where we lost the game. We tried desperately to equalise, but didn’t and then they scored the fourth.

“We are unhappy and the negative is that we conceded four goals. That’s not normal and we need to improve for sure.

“These are players that have won a lot of trophies and it’s true that in the Liga they didn’t achieve what they wanted to, but we’re trying to focus on this season, not what’s gone before.

“We need to wake up tomorrow and think about the Liga. There are details we have to fix and to improve, because in finals if you don’t get the details right you lose.”
