Eibar are on the verge of signing Sporting Gijon midfielder Sergio Alvarez, according to reports in Spain.
The two clubs met with the player and his agent on Wednesday and a deal is expected to be thrashed out within the next 24 hours, with Eibar set to pay around €2m for Sergio – €2m less than the fee stipulated in his buy-out clause.
The 26-year-old, who came through Sporting’s youth academy, already has Primera experience having made 74 appearances for the club, during which he scored four goals, two of which were key in helping his team avoid relegation in the 2015-16 campaign.
The Asturians failed to avoid the drop the following season and Sergio was expected to depart El Molinon.
However, he decided to stay but now feels the time is right to further his career in the top flight and he intends to achieve that with the Basque outfit.
