Celta Vigo have completed the signing of Mexican international defender Nestor Araujo from Santos Laguna on a five-year contract.
The 25-year-old has won 27 caps for his nation, scoring three goals, but is not part of the squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Celta confirmed the signing on their official media streams late on Thursday, confirming him as the second arrival of the summer following David Junca’s arrival from Eibar.
Earlier this week, Diario AS had reported negotiations between the clubs were ‘very advanced’ and on Wednesday, Santos Laguna president Alejandro Irarragori has confirmed these reports.
“It is very likely that Nestor Araujo will sign for Celta,” Irarragori told ESPN in Mexico.
“The operation is on track and we expect to be able to make an announcement soon.”
