Paco Jemez reveals Spain talks

Paco Jemez has revealed he was asked about coaching the Spanish national team in 2016 ‘it was right’ to appoint current Coach Julen Lopetegui.

Jemez is currently unemployed after failing to save Las Palmas from relegation but before he was appointed at Granada in 2016, he was linked to replacing Vicente Del Bosque as boss of La Roja.

“Spain sounded me out in 2016 when there was a vacancy, but it was right to choose Julen,” Jemez told Cadena Cope.

“Of course they are among the favourites for the World Cup, along with Argentina, Brazil, Germany and some more, maybe Belgium in too.

“Next season for me? I would like to get back into coaching, I want to start a new project and begin to start a new process.

“It was tough in Las Palmas because the quality was lacking and it took too much time to change the situation in the midst of a competition, the challenge was very complicated.

“Jonathan Viera’s departure was the last straw.”
