Barca to play in South Africa

Barcelona are to play a friendly match in South Africa on Wednesday, May 16 against the country’s reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.

The game has been organised as part of the commemorative events that will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of former political leader Nelson Mandela, who passed away in June 1999, and will take place in Johannesburg.

The two teams will play for the Mandela Centenary Cup and the La Liga champions plan to travel to South Africa the day before the game.

It will be Barca’s second visit to the country, having defeated Sundowns 2-1 in a friendly in Pretoria in 2007.
