Casillas ‘dreams’ of Spain return

Iker Casillas admits ‘I don’t miss Real Madrid’ but reveals ‘I keep dreaming’ of being recalled by Spain.

Casillas made over 700 appearances for Madrid and won three major trophies with Spain as their most-capped player of all time, but the goalkeeper was seemingly forced out of his boyhood club three years ago and has not appeared for La Roja since June 2016.

“I don’t miss Madrid,” the 36-year-old, who was recently crowned a League champion with Porto, told Marca.

“They are stages in life that you have to go through. Real Madrid have given me everything.

“I’ve played in great matches, won trophies and played for the national team. I’ll be eternally grateful to Real Madrid. I’m still a madridista and I enjoy watching the team.

“World Cup? I'll approach it in a different way, since I haven’t convinced Lopetegui to call me up. It’ll be a new experience for me.

“Having said that, I haven’t withdrawn myself from the national team. I understand that Lopetegui has opted for other players, but I keep dreaming of going back.

“So far, I haven’t retired from the Spanish national team.”
