Atletico Madrid captain Gabi Fernandez insists playing Thursdays and their Europa League participation does not hinder their progress in La Liga.
Diego Simeone’s side travel to Lokomotiv Moscow on Thursday with a 3-0 lead from last week’s first leg and are firm favourites to qualify for the quarter finals of the competition.
“We’ve played a lot of games and competed in a number of competitions for the past number of years,” Gabi told his pre-match press conference.
“We’re used to play Saturdays then Tuesdays or Wednesdays then Sundays, this is not unusual for us and we just have to adapt to this new situation.
“We are happy to be playing two matches a week, it shows we are competing on several fronts and that is a good thing.
“The weather in Moscow? I am from Albacete, and it can get very cold there too!”
