Las Palmas Coach Paco Jemez has praised referee Mateu Lahoz after his performance in Thursday night’s draw with Barcelona.
The official controversially awarded a home side a penalty three minutes into the second half and refused to spot a handball by home goalkeeper Leandro Chichizola outside the penalty area.
“I’m a fan of Mateu and his style of refereeing,” Jemez told his post-match press conference.
“Usually I will not talk about referees, regardless of whether decisions go in our favour or against us, I would rather respect them and not discuss their work.
“The two controversial moments were the penalty and Leandro Chichizola’s handball, but I don’t think either was clear.
“I enjoyed the performance from my team, we fought and battled until the end – now we are a team.
“We still have lots of room for improvement but this point and what it means strengthens us and gives us optimism.”
