Andres Iniesta has defended Gerard Pique’s ‘shushing’ celebration towards Espanyol fans by claiming ‘these things happen in derbies’.
The defender rescued a point for the league leaders at the RCDE Stadium in a typically heated Catalan derby, with the Spain international once more at the centre of supposed controversy.
“These are the sorts of things which can happen in derby matches,” Iniesta told reporters, as quoted by Marca.
“Emotions can often run high but now I hope that everything is calm and we can reflect upon the game.
“It was a shame for us that we could not get all three points but this is not a bad result and we continue on our run and we are still in a good position.
“The pitch was tough for us and we put in a lot of work to fight back in this match and to avoid a 1-0 defeat.”
