“No regrets” over Espanyol – Pique

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has refused to back down from comments reported by Espanyol to the Spanish FA’s Anti-Violence Committee.

The central defender – who signed a new deal with the Blaugrana until 2022 – commented after the Copa del Rey clash between the two that their city rivals were from Cornella.

That is the metropolitan area where Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium is located – their home ground since 2009, which the club felt was being used to scorn them.

“There are no regrets about my comments on Espanyol being from Cornella,” Pique said at his renewal press conference.

“We go there on Sunday (for a La Liga clash) and I will give you the comments in the mixed zone after the match, they can make your headlines.

“They play in Cornella, there is nothing else to it and there is no upset intended.”
