Semedo detained for carrying gun

Police are investigating Villarreal defender Ruben Semedo for two incidents in which he allegedly carried a firearm in a nightclub, say reports.

The incidents reportedly occurred at weekends in November last year in Valencia, when the Portuguese defender was ruled out with a thigh injury.

The 23-year-old was arrested but released after the police took his fingerprints and mugshots, although the gun reported to be on his person during the incidents is yet to be found, reports Las Provincias.

The police reportedly received ‘several complaints’ about the defender’s ‘aggressive behaviour’ but the owners of the club are said to believe the Lisbon-native is a ‘good client’.

Semedo joined Villarreal from Sporting CP in the summer for €14m but has played only four league games due to his season being disrupted by injuries.
