Nations League: Spain draw England, Croatia

Spain have been drawn alongside England and Croatia in Group 4 of League A in the newly-formed UEFA Nations League.

League A consists of Europe’s top 12 nations, divided into three groups of four sides, with teams playing their group opponents both home and away.

The group games will be played between September and November 2018 with the finals to be played in June 2019, with the playoff draw for Euro 2020 following on from that.

The theory is that it should offer more competitive matches between nations ranked together more closely, and a Nations League finals every two years in between World Cups and European Championships.

But the big prize is that lower-ranked nations will get a play-off spot guaranteed for Euro 2020 where they will avoid higher-ranked teams.
