Javier Mascherano believes team spirit and unity has held the key to Barcelona’s success over his time at the club.
The 33-year-old has won 17 trophies across his seven-and-a-half year spell at the Camp Nou, including four league titles and two Champions League crowns.
“The secret to all of this success has been the strength of the dressing room,” Mascherano told reporters, as cited by Marca.
“When I first joined the club I thought it would be difficult as there are so many great players at the club and have had so much success, but it was the opposite – it was easy to settle in.
“It has always been such a good group of people here, with leaders like Victor Valdes, Carlos Puyol and Xavi, who set the tone and one which has been carried on since.
“I feel that I have been very lucky to have spent so many years at this club, I am a lucky person but the dream for me is now over and it is time to say my farewells.”
