Gerard Pique slammed Espanyol fans for their conduct against Barcelona and jibed “If I had to choose a defeat, it’d be this one.”
Jasper Cillessen appeared to have an object thrown at him by an Espanyol supporter, while Sport reports Pique was subjected to offensive chants about popstar wife Shakira during the match, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for Barca.
“I’m not the one who should take action on the matter,” the defender said after the game.
“We already know that playing against Espanyol at Cornella is always difficult.
“I hope that all this doesn’t happen at Camp Nou, no-one being insulted or things thrown on to the pitch.
“When you lose, you always look for explanations, but the team competed well.
“The missed penalty was something that could happen, and the truth is the game didn’t go how we wanted.
“Still, if I had to choose a defeat, it’d be this one.”
