Done deal: Vietto joins Valencia on loan

Atletico Madrid forward Luciano Vietto has joined Valencia on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy thought to be included.

Both clubs had been keen to sort out a permanent deal but a lack of funds at the Mestalla has restricted the move to a loan deal with an option – but not an obligation -to buy at the end of the campaign.

The move comes following suggestions the striker had agreed a switch to Sporting CP, as Gil Marin, Atleti’s CEO, told Spanish TV last week that the Argentine forward had agreed a move to the Lisbon-based club.

Vietto joined Atleti from Villarreal in 2015 in a €20m deal but has scored just once in 25 appearances, with a season-long loan stint at Sevilla in the 2016/17 campaign.

The Argentine rose to prominence with 20 goals in his debut season in Spain with the Yellow Submarine but has struggled to replicate that form since.
