Vietto to join Valencia on loan

Atletico Madrid forward Luciano Vietto will join Valencia on loan this week with an option but not an obligation to buy in the summer, say reports.

Both clubs are keen to sort out a permanent deal but a lack of funds at the Mestalla has restricted the move to a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the campaign.

The move comes following suggestions the striker had agreed a switch to Sporting CP, as Gil Marin, Atleti’s CEO, told Spanish TV last week that the Argentine forward had agreed a move to the Lisbon-based club.

Marca have now led reports from a number of media outlets that the striker will complete his move to Los Che this week and will be available for selection immediately.

Vietto joined Atleti from Villarreal in 2015 in a €20m deal but has scored just once in 25 appearances, with a season-long loan stint at Sevilla in the 2016/17 campaign.

The Argentine rose to prominence with 20 goals in his debut season in Spain with the Yellow Submarine but has struggled to replicate that form since.
