Vela: No titles, but I won a wife and child

Departing Real Sociedad forward Carlos Vela explained how he ‘won a wife and a son’ in San Sebastian, more important than any football trophies.

The Mexican scored in the final minute of his final appearance, after coming from the bench, against Sevilla before departing to join Los Angeles FC, bringing a six-year stint to an end.

“Even compared to my dreams, things have ended so well,” Vela told reporters after the game, as reported by Marca.

“When I scored, so many things came into my mind that I have not been able to fully enjoy them, but now I think I cannot ask for any more.

“I am now leaving the club of course but part of me stays in La Real and in San Sebastian – I am so grateful for all the support from the fans and from the club.

“Titles here are difficult when you are competing with Real Madrid and Barcelona but we will win titles soon and I will be supporting them from afar and here, I won a wife and a daughter.

“This is a special club, like a family, and I will never forget this.”
