Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres wants to stay at the club ‘for many more years’ despite speculation over his future.
The veteran netted the winner for Diego Simeone’s side at home to Alaves on Saturday to help propel Los Rojiblancos into the top two for the first time this season.
“I have never been gifted anything,” Torres is quoted as saying by Diario AS.
“Hard work has allowed me to continue my career and to play at top clubs and my plan is to remain here for many more years.
“We are fighting in the right areas of the table but this is a long season with five months still to go and we will not look beyond our game against Espanyol (on Friday).”
The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker’s contract at the Wanda Metropolitano expires in June 2018.
