Masche ‘gives Barca ultimatum’

Javier Mascherano reportedly expects Barcelona to make a decision on his future in the next few days as he is determined to leave.

Mundo Deportivo reports the Argentine has made up his mind over quitting Camp Nou in January, even though the injury to Samuel Umtiti would provide a way back into the team for at least the two months the France international is expected to be sidelined.

Mascherano is believed to have told Barca he wants to leave before Umtiti’s injury and hasn’t changed his mind, having been out-of-favour in the first part of the season.

The 33-year-old would prefer to leave Barca for a smaller League, where he can be guaranteed game time, without the pressure of La Liga, and can get minutes ahead of the World Cup, which will be his last.

Mascherano is so determined to leave Barca that he has issued an ultimatum, Mundo Deportivo claim, and wants a decision by Thursday at the latest, as he has an offer from the Chinese Super League on the table.

His departure would allow Barca to get his €6m salary off the books but the club are still reluctant to sanction a transfer.
