Madrid’s ‘close eye’ on Werner

Real Madrid are lining up a bid for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner to bolster their forward line in the January transfer window, say reports in Spain.

The 21-year-old has his 11 goals in 18 appearances for the highflying Bundesliga side this campaign and Marca now report he is the number one option among officials at the Bernabeu for January.

Mariano Diaz and Alvaro Morata both departed the Spanish champions this summer with no forwards arriving to replace them, potentially leaving Zinedine Zidane’s side short of attacking options.

According to previous reports, the German club would hold out for up to €100m for the striker which may deter any deal for the Germany international.
