Fuenlabrada coach Antonio Calderon has hailed his side’s ‘wonderful’ performance taking them to within ‘touching distance’ of beating Real Madrid.
The Segunda B outfit secured a 2-2 draw at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night but lost 4-2 on aggregate to the Spanish champions in the Copa Del Rey.
“From the moment we scored I believed we could do it,” Calderon told reporters after the match, as reported by Marca.
“We had bad luck too, our shot went against the woodwork then Real Madrid scored immediately, we came within touching distance of something magical.
“We are full of pride and we have shown what we are capable of, we have given energy to the players and to the fans, it is wonderful.
“Our performance was incredible, I don’t think they (Madrid) expected that level from us, but Bale’s introduction changed the game.
“He came on when they were short on ideas and he encouraged their fans, with them then getting the luck and his world class talent.”
