Koke bemoans Atleti ‘luck’

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke insists his side have ‘not enjoyed luck’ during this season’s Champions League group stage.

Diego Simeone’s side are without a win in any of their four games in the competition to date and now rely on what Spanish press call ‘a miracle’ to avoid early elimination.

“We have to just focus on winning this game, as it all depends on the three points against Roma. Without that victory, the other results are irrelevant,” Koke told reporters on Tuesday.

“We played very well against Roma at the Olimpico, but were unable to win. Against Chelsea, we conceded the decider in stoppages and with Qarabag we simply did not enjoy luck. We hope to do better tomorrow and get our first win.

“We don’t know how Roma will play tomorrow, as they only need a point, they might go with five defenders. The important thing is that we play our game well.

“This isn’t the most pressure we’ve had in a Champions League game, it’s not as if this is new to us. We just have to stay concentrated and try to win.”
