Marco Asensio has clarified the contrast between his playing time at Real Madrid compared to Alvaro Morata, who departed the club this summer.
Morata – a Spanish international teammate of the winger – left the Bernabeu to join Chelsea reportedly due to lack of playing time at the Spanish and European champions.
However, the former Real Mallorca forward has highlighted the difference in age and background means he has no such concerns at the club.
“The situation with Morata was different to my position,” Asensio told reporters, as quoted by Marca.
“When he returned to Madrid (from Juventus, in 2016) he was two years older than I am now and had been playing at the top level, so game time for him was important.
“I am only starting out my career, I’m a 21-year-old and cannot expect to be playing every match when there is such great competition for places.
“I must make the most of the playing opportunities I am afforded by our Coach whether that is as a starter or as a second half substitute.”
