Barcelona will appeal to the yellow cards shown to Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez during Saturday’s win at Leganes, the club have confirmed.
Spain international Pique’s booking rules him out of next weekend’s top-of-the-table clash against Valencia due to suspension, while Suarez was also booked during the encounter at Butarque.
“FC Barcelona have decided to appeal against the yellow cards given to Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez during Saturday's game,” read a statement from the club.
“According to the referee's report, written by the official Undiano Mallenco, Pique was booked in the 29th minute for 'grabbing an opposition player who was in possession of the ball.'
“As for Suarez, he was booked in the 52nd minute for 'impeding the goalkeeper releasing the ball when he has it under control in his hands.’”
Pique’s absence leaves Barca short in defence with Javier Mascherano also sidelined – Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen are their only central defenders.
