Lugo striker Sergio Diaz, on loan from Real Madrid, has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.
The Paraguayan had not started a league game for the Galician club this season – coming off the bench on eight occasions – and is now set for a seven-month spell on the sidelines.
The 19-year-old forward, who joined Madrid from Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno last year, was taken off the pitch in his last outing after feeling discomfort in his knee.
Diaz’s only two starts for high-flying Lugo came in the Copa Del Rey against Gimnastic and Real Zaragoza, and he will now have surgery in Madrid next month.
