Elche ‘believe’ in Copa chances

Elche goalscorer Lolo Pla believes his side have a ‘chance to advance’ after holding Atletico Madrid 1-1 in their Copa del Rey first leg.

The midfielder netted from the spot after being brought down by Lucas Hernandez seven minutes after the break, to cancel out Thomas Partey’s first half effort for Los Rojiblancos.

“We have given ourselves a chance to advance,” Pla told reporters after the match.

“We know the second leg in Madrid is going to be very difficult, but we were able to hold them to a good result here and maybe we can do it again there.”

Meanwhile, Elche-native Saul lamented his side’s performance: “We have to give more in the next leg, we had plenty of chances but couldn't capitalize on them. We need to keep improving in that area.”

The second leg will take place at the Wanda Metropolitano on 29 November.
