Diego Godin has revealed his ‘pride’ at becoming the joint highest non-Spaniard record appearance holder with Atletico Madrid.
The Uruguayan central defender made his 314th appearance for Los Rojiblancos in Sunday’s victory at Celta Vigo, bringing him level with former defensive teammate Luis Perea.
“It’s a very proud achievement for me,” Godin told Marca.
“To fill a page in the history of this club is enormous and very special, it is important to me.
“This will be a nice way to be remembered but honestly what I want to be remembered for is my contribution to the club both on and off the pitch, so we must keep working hard.”
Godin previously made 106 appearances across a three-season stint with Villarreal before joining Atleti in an €8m deal in 2010.
