Racing reject Atleti bid for Martinez

Racing de Avellaneda have turned down an Atletico Madrid offer for Argentina Under-20 international striker Lautaro Martinez.

According to AS, Los Rojiblancos have put a bid of €11.5m on the table for the highly-rated 20-year-old, who they have been tracking for some time. However, the Racing have rejected the bid out of hand and cited the player’s release clause of €15m as a negotiating point.

It is understood that Atleti sporting director Andrea Berta travelled to Buenos Aires in early October to try and hurry things along, with the player’s agent Roly Zarate having stated that his preference was for his client to join Atletico.

Martinez is currently working on coming back from injury after having suffered a knock to his right knee, having just returned from a broken metatarsal.

Even so, he is expected to be fit in time for Racing’s trip to Paraguay to play Club Libertad in the quarter-finals of the Copa Sudamericana on October 24.
