Lyon striker Mariano Diaz is hopeful of a call-up to the Spanish national team despite having previously played for the Dominican Republic.
The 24-year-old has already hit six goals in eight Ligue 1 appearances since his summer switch from Real Madrid and is hopeful of catching the eye of Spain Coach Julen Lopetegui.
The Barcelona-born striker’s mother is from the Dominican, for whom he played and scored for in a 3-1 win over Haiti in 2013, but he sees his future with La Roja.
“I would love to play for the Spanish national team,” Mariano told Radio Marca.
“It’s a big goal of mine that I am working towards but ultimately it is the decision of Coach Julen Lopetegui.
“I don’t know if Madrid have an option to buy me back and I haven’t spoken to Zidane since I left, but I signed a five-year contract with Lyon.
“This club pushed hard for me and Zidane recommended that I come here due to the size of club and competitiveness of the lead, and with Lacazette having left a place in attack.”
