Atletico Madrid full back Filipe Luis has revealed he used to lack focus in his younger days and often drank too much alcohol.
The Brazilian joined Deportivo La Coruna in a permanent deal as a 23-year-old before joining Atletico two seasons later, but it wasn’t always evident he would succeed.
“There were times I went out and drunk more than I should have,” Luis said in an interview with El Mundo.
“I consider myself very lucky but I’m well paid and work few hours, even though there is lots of pressure of course I don’t have to work as hard as in a lot of other jobs.
“When you look around and see how regular people live, the least I can do is to take my job completely seriously – I would not change it for the world.
“Most players live in a bubble, particularly those who are younger. They all have branded bags, expensive shoes and various tattoos to try and make people respect them.
“A lot of players forget the real world.”
