Zaza set for Italy redemption

Valencia’s Simone Zaza could earn his first call-up to the Italian national team since an embarrassing penalty miss in Euro 2016, say reports.

Italy play their final group games for World Cup 2018 qualification against Macedonia and Albania next month and Sky Italia report the 26-year-old could be in the squad.

Coach Giampiero Ventura is reportedly keen to recall the former Sassuolo and Juventus forward, who has netted five goals in six La Liga appearances.

After an unhappy stint at West Ham, the Italy international moved to Los Che on an initial loan deal from Juventus in January for €2m with the obligatory €16m purchase completed in July.

Zaza gained infamy for blazing over from the spot in Italy's penalty shootout defeat to Germany in the quarters finals of the European Championships last year.

The Italy squad will be confirmed on Saturday.
