Manolo Marquez resigns at Las Palmas

Las Palmas Coach Manolo Marquez has resigned after only six matches in charge following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Leganes.

It comes as somewhat of a surprise as despite four league defeats from six, the side also picked up impressive victories – away at Malaga and at home to Athletic Bilbao.

Marquez was appointed in July to replace the outgoing Quique Setien having helped Las Palmas’s B team to a historic promotion to Spain’s Segunda B.

The club’s announcement confirmed the 49-year-old would be remaining at the club in the Training and Recruitment Department.

Whilst the club looks for a new manager, first team coaches Juan Carlos Valeron and Paquito Ortiz will lead Los Amarillos.

Las Palmas, who lie 15th in the standings, travel to the Camp Nou to face Barcelona this weekend.
