Betis keen on Joaquin extension

Real Betis want to renew captain Joaquin’s contract beyond the current campaign but as yet no discussions have begun.

The 36-year-old returned to Los Verdiblancos upon their promotion back to Spain’s top flight in 2015 for his second stint at the club, while chairman Angel Haro is hopeful an agreement can be reached.

“As yet, the issue has not been addressed,” Haro told ABC de Sevilla.

“No offer from the club has yet been put on the table, it is not something we have discussed as things stand.

“We have a magnificent relationship with Joaquin – he is our captain and has prioritised the needs of this club, who have a place in his heart.

“Our ambition is to have Joaquin playing for us after this season and giving the standard of performances he has shown so far this summer.”

The winger has made 63 appearances since rejoining the club and has played over 300 times in total for the Andalucians, with his current deal expiring in June 2018.
